AMOG Consulting Ltd is pleased to announce that the fabrication of our Wave Energy Converter (WEC) technology demonstrator will be undertaken by Mainstay Marine Solutions Ltd.

The contract was awarded to Mainstay Marine, workboat builders and marine engineers in South West Wales, after a detailed and considered tender review process.

Stewart Graves, Managing Director of Mainstay Marine, commented ‘’Mainstay is delighted to have been awarded the contract with AMOG against EU competition. This exciting project enhances our ever-increasing portfolio of Marine Energy fabrication projects and is great endorsement of our marine engineering capabilities and prospects for the future.”

Simple. Scalable. Sustainable.

AMOG’s WEC design has undergone a robust testing regime to reach this pivotal Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and progress to testing at utility scale. The device itself is tuned to maximise the power from incoming waves by extracting energy from the motion of its pendulum structure. It is mechanically simple, can operate in a range of water depths, and has been designed for robustness.

AMOG's WEC Project Manager, Jon Gumley, currently in Cornwall for the announcement, said: "We're excited to have Mainstay Marine Solutions Ltd. commence work on the fabrication of the AMOG WEC. Signing of this contract ends an intense period of detail design activity. Now we're looking forward to a close working relationship with Mainstay on the build phase followed by a successful testing campaign in the summer." It is anticipated that by the end of summer 2019, the WEC technology demonstrator will be deployed and tested at the FaBTest site, a pre-consented wave energy device nursery situated within Falmouth harbor and administered by the Renewable Energy Group at University of Exeter and the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners.

Particular note is made of the contribution of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Marine-I, whose contribution has enabled Phase 2 to be undertaken.
